Bodyguard Training - Courses And Providers
As I mentioned previously, the first thing you need to do when selecting a training course is choose one that is relevant to the type of bodyguarding work you will want to do in the future. Once you have done this, you can then look more specifically at what each course offers, for example will you require firearms training. This will narrow down the field of choices you have to research.
Preparing For Your Course Before starting your course, it is important that you prepare. The fact that you are reading through this site shows that you are already preparing. Do some further research on the internet, and get hold of some industry publications and books. Find out more on the major players in the industry, and what’s going on today. If you want to invest some money, this CD guide is only about £12/$20 and has some useful tips and information to help you prepare. The course is split into theory and practical. The theory section of the course is book based and fairly easy to get to grips with – if you put in the hours, you will have no problem. It is also ideal to start physical training before the course, you want to be in the best shape possible. |
The Bodyguard Training Course
The course is likely to be residential, lasting about 1 month. Get to know your fellow team members early on, and you will enjoy the time better. It may seem like a military style of life for those 4 weeks, but this is all part of the training. There is a lot to get through! If you have not been in the military, you may find this alien. Try and make the most of your instructors, as they will have a wealth of experience and you can really learn a lot from them – skills that will stand you in good stead in the future.
Examples of some of the things you will be covering:
- Surveillance- how to carry out covert surveillance, how to remain relatively unseen in a crowd and using cover.
- Unarmed combat – In most of your jobs you will be unarmed but still must know how to disable any would be attacker or threat.
- Fire arms training (not all courses) – needed for work in hostile zones
- First Aid
- Fitness
Cost Of Bodyguard Training
Most Bodyguard training courses run from 2 weeks to 4 weeks. Costs vary anywhere from $1500/£2,000 to $15,000/£10,000 or more. It is universally accepted though that most of the time you get what you pay for. If you opt for the cheapest course you can find, it is likely that it is not going to give you a great experience, AND it is not respected industry wide = this will impact on your future employability. This isn't saying you should find the most expensive course and go on it, but just ensure you are satisifed that the investment is woth making. Remember - the cost of close protection training is an investment, you will reap the rewards of attending a good training course in your future career. Make sure you choose the right one, this is possibility the most important decision you will make (and expensive!)
